Lights, Camera, Action

I had this fantastic opportunity to participate in this phenomenal docuseries, Balance: A Perimenopause Journey, earlier this year. This ambitious and revealing new project seeks to illuminate the often misunderstood perimenopause phase. Spearheaded by a powerhouse team including director and producer Sadhvi Siddhali Shree, co-director Sadhvi Anubhuti, and activist Alyssa Milano, this series promises to shine a much-needed light on an issue that affects millions of women worldwide yet remains cloaked in silence and stigma.

Understanding Perimenopause

Perimenopause marks the transition period before menopause, during which a woman’s body undergoes substantial hormonal changes that can affect her physical and mental health. Despite its universality, perimenopause has not received the attention it deserves in medical research or public discourse, leaving many women to navigate these changes without adequate knowledge or support.

The Visionaries Behind the Series

Sadhvi Siddhali Shree, a decorated Army Iraq-war veteran and North America’s first female Jain monk, alongside Sadhvi Anubhuti, is at the helm of this enlightening project. Their personal experiences with perimenopause, combined with their spiritual background, provide a unique perspective on the need for balance and understanding during this challenging phase. Actress and activist Alyssa Milano, who has previously collaborated with the duo, joins them as both executive producer and interview subject, bringing her advocacy and passion to the forefront of this cause.

The Goal: Education and Empowerment

The docuseries Balance aims to break the pervasive stigma surrounding perimenopause and advocate for better support and research. The series will offer invaluable insights into hormonal changes’ biological and psychological impacts by featuring leading healthcare professionals. In addition to myself, the docuseries features other leading medical professionals and menopause influencers. Milano emphasizes the critical link between women’s health and equality, advocating for a healthcare system prioritizing women’s needs.

Personal Journeys and Professional Insights

Both Sadhvi Siddhali Shree and Sadhvi Anubhuti share their struggles with perimenopause, reflecting on the profound impact it had on their lives and spiritual practices. This personal connection fuels their mission to educate other women, helping them to recognize symptoms and understand their bodies better.

A Lineup of Esteemed Experts

The crew followed me through two full days of seeing patients and my work to provide education to my colleagues in my Prescribe and Manage Hormone Therapy with Confidence course.  They also filmed with renowned specialists like Dr. Sharon Malone, Dr. Jessica Shepherd, and Dr. Neal Barnard, among others, to ensure that the series will provide a well-rounded understanding of perimenopause. These experts bring a wealth of knowledge and experience, addressing everything from hormone replacement therapy to holistic wellness approaches.

A Call to Action

The series not only seeks to educate but also to inspire action. By raising awareness of the challenges faced by perimenopausal women, Balance hopes to foster a more supportive and informed society. It encourages women to engage with healthcare providers actively, seek information, and advocate for comprehensive care.

With Balance: A Perimenopause Journey, Sadhvi Siddhali Shree, Sadhvi Anubhuti, and Alyssa Milano are setting the stage for a global conversation about a phase of life that has been too long ignored.
